Salted Caramel Coffee Martini Recipe & How to Make It at Home

A Salted Caramel Coffee Martini combines smooth gin, coffee liqueur, and sweet salted caramel syrup for a rich, easy-to-enjoy cocktail. Simple to prepare and delightful to sip, this martini is an excellent after-dinner treat or special-occasion drink.

When most people picture a martini they imagine a dry, savory cocktail often served with an olive. This version leans dessert-forward: the caramel and coffee notes transform the classic format into something sweet and indulgent.

My partner John, who attended bartending school a few years ago, suggested this combination while we were experimenting with recipes. His background in mixology means he often sees interesting ingredient pairings that work surprisingly well. The gin used here is smooth and not overly botanical, which lets the coffee liqueur and caramel syrup shine without clashing.

If you prefer not to use gin, the same coffee-caramel concept works with other spirits or cream liqueurs—try a hazelnut liqueur or Irish cream for a different profile. For those who do enjoy gin, however, the pairing with caramel and coffee creates a pleasantly balanced cocktail that’s more dessert than dry aperitif.

For a decorative touch, dip the rim of your martini glass in a little caramel syrup and press it into colored or metallic decorating sugar. This adds sparkle and a sweet first sip. We also made small “caramel olives” by molding caramel squares into ovals and placing them on toothpicks for garnish.

The cocktail itself is straightforward: pour the gin, coffee liqueur, and salted caramel syrup into a shaker with ice, shake well, and strain into a chilled martini glass. This recipe yields one generous martini; simply double the ingredients for two servings.

Please note this recipe is intended for adults of legal drinking age. Enjoy responsibly.

If you prefer a crisper, lighter cocktail, consider a lemon drop martini or another citrus-forward drink instead. For those who love sweet, coffee-forward drinks, this salted caramel version is a cozy, decadent option.
