This buttered rice is a simple side dish that’s perfect to whip up when you need something quick and easy. It’s full of buttery flavor — you could practically eat the rice on its own!
We all need side dish recipes that are quick, easy, and fail-safe. This Buttered Rice fits the bill perfectly. It uses plain white rice and just a couple of ingredients to create a rich, buttery side that pairs with almost any main.

Watch Me Make It
Buttered Rice Ingredients:
- Butter
- Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base
If you love butter (who doesn’t?), you know it elevates simple dishes. This recipe uses just 1 tablespoon of butter, but it makes a noticeable difference. I prefer salted butter so I don’t have to add extra seasoning; if you need to limit sodium, choose unsalted butter.
Instead of plain water or store-bought broth, I like to use a concentrated paste like Better Than Bouillon Roasted Chicken Base. It’s a highly concentrated stock that adds deep, savory flavor. It is saltier than typical broth, so use it sparingly and follow the manufacturer’s mixing instructions when diluting it into water.

My preferred rice for this dish is long-grain white rice because it turns out light and fluffy. You can also use jasmine, basmati, or brown rice — just follow the package directions for cooking times and liquid ratios, and add the bouillon and butter to the cooking liquid before adding the rice.
