Milo Dinosaur is an iced Milo drink made from milk, sweetened condensed milk, ice and a generous mound of dry Milo powder on top. Popular in Malaysia and Singapore, it’s cold, creamy and chocolatey with a distinct malty note. The crunchy, scoopable Milo topping sits on the surface and gradually blends into the drink as you sip.
This easy homemade version takes about 5 minutes and doesn’t require a blender. The dramatic dry Milo layer looks indulgent by design — it’s part of the fun and texture of the drink.

What does Milo Dinosaur taste like?
Expect a cold, creamy chocolate-malt drink with the rich sweetness of condensed milk. The dry Milo topping adds a crunchy, malty layer that you can scoop or stir in for bursts of concentrated flavour.
Milo Dinosaur vs Milo Godzilla
A Milo Dinosaur is an iced Milo beverage crowned with extra dry Milo powder. A Milo Godzilla boosts the indulgence with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Milo King Kong goes further with additional ice cream, whipped cream, sauces or sprinkles for a dessert-like treat.
Why you’ll like this Milo Dinosaur
- Ready in 5 minutes — no blender required.
- Cold, creamy and malty — made with milk, Milo and sweetened condensed milk.
- The topping is the star — the dry Milo creates a scoopable, crunchy layer.
- Easy to customise — add more condensed milk for sweetness or extra Milo for a stronger malt flavour.
- Make-ahead friendly — prepare the drink base ahead of time and add ice and the dry Milo topping before serving.
Key ingredient notes and substitutions
See the recipe card below for the full ingredient list and measurements.

Milo
Milo is a chocolate-malt powder that defines the flavour. Use some dissolved into the milk and reserve extra dry Milo for the topping. Don’t skip the dry layer — it’s what turns the drink into a Milo Dinosaur.
Milk
Whole milk yields the creamiest texture, but semi-skimmed (2%) works fine. For a richer, café-style version, swap a portion of the milk for evaporated milk.
Sweetened condensed milk
This adds sweetness and velvety body. Start with about 2 tablespoons and adjust to taste. Note regional labelling differences: in some countries it’s simply called condensed milk, while in others it’s specifically labelled sweetened condensed milk.
Ice
Fill the glass with ice before pouring the Milo mixture. Crushed ice creates a slushier, café-like mouthfeel; ice cubes keep the drink straightforward and longer-lasting.
Optional Milo rim

Decorating the glass rim is optional but makes the drink feel extra special. Do this before assembling the Milo Dinosaur while the glass is empty.

1. Pour a couple of tablespoons of condensed milk onto a small plate. Dip the outside edge of the glass in the condensed milk, making the line as thin or wide as you prefer.

2. Place a few tablespoons of dry Milo on another plate and roll the sticky rim through it until coated. Set the glass aside while you prepare the drink.
How to make a Milo Dinosaur

1. Warm half of the milk in the microwave or on the stove until hot but not boiling.

2. Stir in the Milo powder until fully dissolved to avoid lumps.

3. Add the remaining cold milk and mix well.

4. Stir in sweetened condensed milk, starting with about 2 tablespoons and adjusting to your preferred sweetness.

5. Fill a tall glass with ice.

6. Pour the Milo mixture over the ice.
7. Spoon a generous mound of dry Milo powder on top.
8. Serve immediately with a straw and a long spoon so you can scoop the dry Milo as you drink.
Milo Dinosaur variations
- Milo Godzilla — add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Milo King Kong — top with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
- Neslo — stir in 1–2 teaspoons of instant coffee for a mocha kick.
- Extra creamy — replace some milk with evaporated milk.
- Blended Milo Dinosaur — blend the drink with ice for a slushy texture.
- Milo shake — blend with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a thicker shake.
Storage and make-ahead
The Milo Dinosaur is best enjoyed immediately after adding ice and the dry Milo topping. To prepare ahead, combine the Milo, milk and condensed milk and chill the base in the fridge for up to 2 days. Add ice and the dry Milo topping just before serving to preserve texture.
For other chilled, chocolate-forward drinks and treats, try iced coffee with condensed milk, a Nutella milkshake or a rich, creamy hot chocolate. Condensed milk also works beautifully in desserts like rice pudding.
