Supplies:
- Soy wax flakes
- Lavender essential oil or fragrance oil
- Large heatproof measuring cup or pouring vessel
- Mason jars (standard or wide-mouth)
- Candle wicks

How to make lavender candles
- Secure the wick to the center of the mason jar. Use a small drop of hot glue or a bit of cooled melted wax to hold the wick base in place. Wrap the top of the wick around a skewer or pencil laid across the jar to keep it centered as the wax cools.
- Melt the soy wax flakes in a heatproof measuring cup using a double boiler or microwave. If microwaving, heat in short intervals and stir frequently. Plan to melt roughly twice the volume of wax as the jar capacity; for a pint-size jar this is about 3 cups, but adjust as needed.
- After the wax is melted, add lavender essential oil. A tablespoon per mason jar is a good starting point; adjust to your scent preference. Stir thoroughly, then carefully pour the scented wax into the prepared jar, keeping the wick centered.
- Allow the candle to cool and harden completely (several hours or overnight), then trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting.
